My favorite weekend to date!!

Exactly one month after we parted, he came back!! Not without drama though. B decided to work on Friday, so we planned for him to leave Houston in the afternoon and be in NYC by 9pm. All day I was literally dancing on air in anticipation. I hear his voice, "I'm getting on the plane" and all is right with the world-so I thought. About two hours into the first leg of his trip I get a phone call from the plane saying his flight from Baltimore to NYC was cancelled. Honestly, this could not be worse-he has never been here, has basically 48 hrs here, and he is not excited about the travel time as it is...Luckily, my mom saves the day and we book him a bus ride here. It adds an hour to the trip, but he gets here. Words (this blog) cannot come close to the emotions I had seeing his face and touching him again. He makes my hear melt! Think J likes him too-here's a pic of my two boys, the motion in J's tail says it all! He loves his dad!

The only pic I have of my mom

To all who know, these two are besties...I don't even need to describe this pic-but know that this is a twin bed and he weighs a cool 90lbs!

Also, notice the bed next to them-it's a queen, guess this was more fun!

Broadway

One of my best treats thus far was having my mom in town. To add to that, one of best friends from college had a trip to NYC planned at the same time. I set up a little dinner (tapas) for us at Stanton Social and then a night on the town watching my friend perform in her off-broadway show. This night was so special in so many ways, truly the perfect reflection of great friends, great family, great time! Here is a pic of Becky and I that night! Hope you can see the joy in my face.
Words do not begin to describe my friend Emily's talent. If you are here, you should make time to go see this show. It is an hour and half of pure entertainment. Not too mention, the beautiful blonde above was called out, had to get on stage and be serenaded! After the show, people kept asking if she was a plant-she was so natural.

My Anniversary

Guess they say the first year of marriage is the hardest?? If this is the case, I am blessed. I married my best friends, my partner, my soulmate, my rock-my list goes on and on. This year has been one of, if not, the best year of my life. Due to the circumstances, we had to celebrate our first anniversary apart. We had a nice dinner together before we parted, so on the day of-I sure didn't expect anything. My amazing B sent me these. The funny part was, I was still living in my hotel-and the ladies at the front desk were planning on keeping these as their own! I had to go ask them for them! Amazing...

Mom's Weekend

This was my first weekend in NYC with a guest. Guess I should start by saying my dog came by way of a great family friend at the beginning of the week. I moved into my permanent house, the day the three of them arrived. I have a gorgeous apt here, but had no furniture or supplies. I borrowed toilet paper from the hotel I was living in, ran to bed, bath and beyond (literally two blocks away) bought a air mattress and basic supplies and grabbed a cab home. Only to realize, I didn't even have water to offer them. I ran back out to the deli around the corner-water, hummus and fruit. We were set! The friends stayed two days and overlapped with my mom's arrival. I cannot begin to explain how fun it was to have and see my mom. I made dinner reservations at ABC Kitchen, it was amazing food-but, even better-it was amazing time alone without distractions with my mom. Something that rarely happened at home!! We had plans to get my apt furnished/livable and sightsee and eat/drink and enjoy. We accomplished all!! The only negative of the entire weekend was that I took my mom to a local furniture store, but didn't know I was taking her through the projects. I honestly thought she was heading home after this little adventure. Luckily, we were very blessed and did not get into any trouble!

Sunday-Day 6

I am blessed with good friends. One of my best friends, Mikel, told all her NYC friends that I am here and one of them, Emily, reached out to me. Although we were not great friends in high school, our family are friends and have shared much of life together. Emily is a talented singer who is currently doing an off broadway show called Voca People. If you have not heard of them, really fun to google/you tube. I plan to see the show in person in the next couple weeks. She and I met up this morning for church. I had heard of this church prior to leaving from several different people and all spoke highly. I had every intention of going myself, but had not planned that far ahead. When Emily and I talked, she mentioned she was a member of this exact church. I latched on. This connection could only be from Him, again love when I recognize the power of being in tune. The service was great, the pastor was not the famous guy, however, he was what I needed at that moment. His lecture was about the things in life we "wrestle with" and how important the role of a father-physical and spiritual-is. I needed this. I am excited for things to come!

Saturday-Day 5

Today I start work. I hear my phone ring at 7.45, and realize that is is not my family-they are one time zone behind. Calling is one of the outgoing guys, he is ready to pass things off and leave this place for California. He is clearly over his one year in NYC. I decide today should be filled with both work and play. I read for an hour or so, then get ready and head out. As I head out, one block into my journey, I hear a huge commotion around the corner. I notice that a group of 20+ men are all picketing Sotheby's. I was too chicken to take a picture, but later I would return to only 10 or so and snapped a quick pic.

I hop on the subway and make my way to Soho to shop for furniture. A new friend had been the night before and recommended several shops, so I had a plan. I stepped off the subway to one of my favorite sites, the street vendors. Having been here before, this is always a fun place to be. The bargains, the people, the sheer bliss of each person looking for the best deal! I found my shops, had too much fun, found great furniture and wondered a bit. One thing I did notice was that all the shops have at least one door man who constantly watches the flow of traffic. I must admit I am a closet reality tv/people magazine fan-so, like any good tv watcher, I had to find Dash. I was in shock when I saw the line. No other store had anything like this, but this line wrapped around the corner with people from all walks of life. I shot a quit pic and wondered, was Kim in there?

I also passed a patch of grass and a fountain. I think every person in NYC decided that they could fit in this small section of land. I assume this is sunbathing here, and the fountain the pool?

I met up with a friend from work and his wife. They are great, and they were generous with information about how to navigate this city. Sabrina, the wife, told me "NYC has everything, you choose what you want and the level you want and make this city yours" as we discussed the $175 membership to a gym per person. I thought this quote was very applicable to all things here, this city truly has everything for everyone, some things cost money, some things cost time, but it is up to me-where will I choose to invest?

For dinner, I decided to use my first take out menu. My friend that spent the year here previously left me with more than 25 menus that he found worthy. I went with sushi, no surprise. Dinner was great and complimented with the fact that I got to talk to my husband. Facetime is amazing! To see his face when my screen rings is something that soothes the soul. He is the most amazing person I know. I love sharing life with him, and I am sad not to share the joys of time here with him. So for now, the blog will do.
