Funny stories 2 and 3

Second funny thing from the weekend, I will probably get in trouble for, but it's too cute! I found this app that puts mustaches on people from the phone. B let me put them on him and I of course, made him try a bunch on me. Which is your fav?

Third funny (dumb) story from the weekend. This weekend was daylight savings and B and I had discussed the time change earlier in the day and I had said spring forward, fall back. He said so we put our clocks back an hour? I said no, spring forward. He left it at that. Can only imagine what he was thinking! Insight into my thoughts-somehow I had confused myself into thinking this was the spring. So, when I wake up in the middle of the night and my phone (which has already changed) says 4.45 and my clock on the stove says 5.45-you can imagine my confusion. Of course, I wake Bryan up and discuss the odd-ness of my phone not changing and the clock on the stove going forward on its own. I am totally perplexed, and clearly, I do my best thinking at 4.45! He gently rolls over and says "fall back honey". I asked him what he meant and he was so sweet to let me know it's only November and that this is the fall in fall back. Unreal. It literally took me until that moment to realize it was not the spring and my clocks weren't on come crazy ploy to get me!

AC

Ok, so most of you know, I am not so handy when it comes to things around the house. B on the other hand is pretty savvy. It is always comforting to know we are in good hands! This weekend was a perfect example...

In NYC, most places have window units for their ACs. After a few months, I've started to get used to them. It has been a little tough these last couple of weeks, as it has gotten colder-I've started using them less, but the building also turned the radiators on (producing a ton of heat), so I've had a hard time balancing the two. When Bryan gets here, he tells me how hot it is, so we turn the AC up. These units are not super new and make weird noises often. I have learned to ignore or hit them and then they seem to work just fine. So, around 3am the bedroom unit starts acting up. I pop out of bed and promptly hit the thing until it stops making funny noises. Hop back in bed and fall right back asleep. Bryan on the other hand, can't fall asleep as quickly and stays awake. About 20 min later I hear him up and turning the lights on. This is what we find.

Somehow I had frozen my AC unit...Of course I panic, but Bryan simply turns the unit off and tells me we have to let it thaw out. So, we open the windows and sleep with all the NYC sounds in our bedroom all night, but at least we were sleeping at a reasonable temp!

The next morning the unit was thawed out and was working fine, but I noticed it was very dirty. I then cleaned both units and bought filters for them-maybe this will save us next time.

My husband!!

It has literally been over 7 weeks since we've seen each other. We hope he passed his boards with flying colors and it is all worth it! Anyway, he came to see J and I this weekend. First funny story-when he got here, the dog walker had J and and the key to the place out, so Bryan had to wait in the lobby. When "the pack" come through the lobby door, J is minding his own business and doesn't see B, but some little dog apparently loved Bryan, and started jumping up on him. As soon as J realized this was his dad, he lost it! He started jumping up on Bryan too, B said it almost knocked him over! Fun for me that I'm not the only one missing our dad!

So, he got in about fifteen minutes before I got home and got his congrats treats-one of which was a couple of sleeves of golf balls from the World Champ Cardinals, that was back ordered-so he got to read the email-ugh. He also got his muffins and few other treats-hope he enjoyed! When I came home I literally started crying as he hugged me. He is my rock and his arms are the best place in the world! Pretty nice to have him here.

I made reservations at a place that I had only heard of, trying it on blind faith. Actually, love the chef, so I had a suspicion it would be really good. Plus, one of the reviews said-famous people are there-has to be good, right? (Although we saw none.) The place is called Perry St. and it lived up to it's reviews. When you walk in it is very "cool" feeling, all white, tons of windows, and minimalist/modern furniture. We sat on the the side, and we could see over the Hudson from our table. The first pic is right outside the place, note the cool guy posing for me...

Here was Bryan's favorite from the night, the ice in his scotch was a single, large cube-that didn't really melt.

Pic of my pork chop and baby brussels sprouts in the back. The sprouts were so well done, probably the best I've ever eaten. Gotta love the plating!

Great first night, fun to celebrate my husband. I am always so proud, but this week he deserved it! Perry St. made me love Jean Georges restaurants even more...

Marley's Dad

Marley's dad forgot to mention when he picked him up that his birthday was the following day. So, when I see him the next day around 6 pm and he tells me it's his bday-I felt terrible. In trying to worry about Bryan's test, I had overlooked a friend's special day (or if I had known!). So, I tried to kill two birds with one stone and set out to find the city's best blueberry muffins for a treat for B and dinner at a great place for bday celebration. Well as it turns out, the muffins came from Friend of a Farmer-specially made for me because the "muffin chef" leaves at 10.30am and I couldn't come until 7.30pm. And, dinner was at CraftBar around the corner.

The muffins were heavenly. The blueberry was not overpowering, they were perfectly sweetened, and not to bready. I wish the pic did justice to the taste. I put my finger in the pic to show you how stinkin big these guys were too.

Everyone teased me about the muffins, but B loved them!! Next, we went to dinner at CraftBar-it's a fun place to eat in flatiron. Has a famous chef/owner, Tom Colicchio, and this is his middle of the road version. I'd have to say the food was well done, great presentation, but probably won't be going back here-too much to conquer to make the repeat list!

Sunday -A day of rest

Today has been great, despite little sleep last night. I had to put this pic in to describe my evening...Looking at the picture, the first lump is me on my side, booty in the middle (bright white) and legs to picture right. The second bump was my treat all night-Marley. Apparently this little guy is as cuddly as can be. He is also a heat seeking missile-so, all night, I had a buddy under the covers with me, nuzzled right next to my "warmth". Plus, a j-man who was off to the left in the pic. Fun times!

Woke up this morning and went to church. Always a great way to start my week. Nice to take that time, reset and have a fresh start. Love it and need it. Well, this morning was especially needed. Tim Keller spoke, enough said. Actually, he spoke on being a self-centered Christian and boasting. WOW, did this message ring home for me. I honestly felt every work was directed at me. Such a nice reminder that life is not really about me at all!! Plus, made me oh so grateful for my husband. What a good example he is for me. He is honestly the picture of selflessness in every way. I cannot begin to understand what I did to deserve a man like him, but I am more than blessed!

Speaking of, I am struggling with being a good wife right now. B has his boards on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and what I wouldn't give to be with him and cook his dinner, rub his back, love on him-really anything and everything he needs I would love to provide. But, I am stuck here and can only do so much from a far. It is eating me up not to be there and be a "wife". UUGGGHHH. So, please pray for my husband if you are reading this, this week. I know he will pass with flying colors, but scary nonetheless.

Final Sunday thoughts, I have found a new New York treat. It's called Fresh Direct. I had heard about this, but felt like it wouldn't help me since there is only one of me-oh how wrong I was!! F.D. is an online Target basically. You pick your groceries, toiletries, etc from their list and less than 24 hrs later the stuff is delivered!! Amazing. Plus, hard to understand if you don't live here, carrying a 12 pack of toilet paper home is tough because that leaves only one hand for the rest of your groceries. So, to have someone deliver this and not have to make multiple trips-what a treat!!

Even J is happy for the delivery!! Hope you all have a great week.

Snow in October

Ok, so the weathermen predicted snow, but no one really thought it would happen. It did! Cannot describe my shock when snow came pouring down in OCTOBER. Nonetheless, I went and met my friend Emily at a place called Toscano's for lunch. My husband told me I didn't put enough words this time, so I am editing this...Here's my excitement for the day-Scout Mob app for phones. This is amazing, you can get great deals (lunch today was half off) by bringing your phone with you. You tell the waiter and then push get the deal in front of them-crazy!

On my walk (over 20 blocks) I took some pics of the scenery! It's really cold, but these pics don't show that.

See how happy we are, we just paid nothing for a great lunch in the city!!

Oh by the way, did I mention I am babysitting a friend's dog who is from Cali?? This dog hates the rain and even worse-snow!! Actually, I am pretty sure this is Marley's first snow-ever.  I had to carry him to even get outside...J-man loves the cold, just like his dad.

Halloween

This time of year is really pretty here. The leaves are starting to change colors, weather is cooling off (30's this week), and people are getting festive. Halloween is a big deal. I think most kids have two plus parties they go to to trick-or-treat. I'm am curious about how they actually do it on the night of as the layout for living does not lend itself to knocking on everyone's door! Even my building is in the mood, check out our entrance-it's like this on both sides of the glass and both sides of the entry...

Finally, the store which I have to force myself to walk away from daily because if I ever go in, I will never leave or I would come back way too much for my little NYC salary! This weekend I am babysitting one of my colleagues dogs. Here's Marley and J one night (can you feel the love)... And then I'm heading to a party with some girls from work. Thinking I'm going to be a hippie right now. I'll post photos later...Have a great weekend everyone and Happy Halloween
